Project Description
On the boiler-room floor, the rookie pounds the phone. Hes cold-calling, relentlessly delivering the prescribed pitch, desperate to sell the poor sucker on the other end of the line something he never knew he needed
Welcome to the early 1990s, the golden age of economic prosperity. The party is raging, and the stock-market fraudsters are circling like barracudas. Greed rules. In The Rip (ECW, May 2003), onetime boiler-room insider Bret Aita shines a light on this decadent culture and its players. Before the market bubble burst, these hustlers squandered their illicit gains on flashy cars, top restaurants, and season football ticketsalong with drugs, prostitutes, gambling, and wild parties. Aita exposes their intricate scams: the classic pump-and-dump, the bear raid, and the false offering. He also introduces you to the industry regulators who eventually broke up the fraudulent game and took some of these white-collar criminals down.
