Project Description

No longer a footnote in American history, the Japanese midget submarine, which was sunk by the first shot the U.S. fired in World War II, was recently discovered three miles south of Pearl Harbor. In The First Shot (International Marine/McGraw-Hill), Reed and Craddock recount the untold tale of this sunken submarine and what effect its discovery has had on the history of America. While detailing the chain of events that caused the U.S. to fire its first shot of World War II, the book will analyze the significance of the recent discovery of the Japanese submarine, what light it sheds on the "Day of Infamy," Japan’s reaction to the finding of the sub, and what more we may hope to learn from its recovery. In Hollywood terms, it’s the story of the little sub that started a big war.
