Venture Literary Sells Book of Greatest Golf Shots to Triumph/Random House

On April 16, 2007, Greg Dinkin of Venture Literary sold the North American rights to Barry LeBrock’s The Front Nine to Tom Bast of Triumph Books/Random House.

In The Front Nine: Golf’s All-Time Greatest Shots, award-winning Fox Sports Net sportscaster and author Barry Lebrock tells the thrilling tales of the nine greatest shots in the history of professional golf. Each chapter consists of three parts: “Prelude,” “The Shot,” and a “Post-Script.” The “Prelude” is the story of a golfer’s upbringing, his unique introduction to golf, little-known details about the forming of a major tournament, and other pertinent facts leading up to the moment that changed golf history forever. “The Shot” recounts the actual golf action leading up to, including, and following the specific shot. The “Post Script” ties the chapter together through fresh perspective and insight into the ultimate significance of the shot—and its place in the enduring history of the game.

Some of the shots include: Tiger Woods’ chip on the 16th at the 2005 Masters. Gary Player’s nine-iron on the 16th at the 1972 PGA Championship. Jack Nicklaus’ four-iron on the 15th at the 1986 Masters. Ben Hogan’s one-iron—yes, one-iron—on the 18th at the 1950 U.S. Open. And, of course, “The Shot Heard Around the World”—Gene Sarazen’s double eagle on the 15th hole in the final round of the 1935 Masters.

Barry LeBrock is an award-winning, Los Angeles–based sportscaster for Fox Sports Net and is the author of The Trojan Ten: The Ten Thrilling Victories That Changed the Course of USC Football History (NAL, 2006). He currently hosts the nightly, national highlight show The Final Score—which is seen throughout the United States—and will be the featured announcer for DirecTV’s Daytona 500 coverage on “Hot Pass.” He has been on-air since 1985, including five years at CNN and CNN International. His most recent honor was the 2005 Associated Press Mark Twain Award for Best On-Air Sports Reporting and he is a frequent guest on sports talk shows around the country.
