"No Kill Date"

Venture Literary Sells Critically Acclaimed Non-Fiction Author’s Debut Novel to Thomas Dunne Books

On April 26, 2007, Jennifer de la Fuente of Venture Literary sold world rights to Todd Tucker’s novel Over and Under to Peter Wolverton at Thomas Dunne Books.

In this coming-of-age tale, set in Indiana in 1979 (but just as resonant as today), twelve-year-old Andy and his best friend, Tom, find their families on opposite sides of the local factory strike. The violence and turmoil that the town experiences as a result of this divisive strike—including an explosion, a murder, and the escape of two fugitives—is also felt in the lives of the boys, who are secretly observing all the goings-on. It’s a summer of growth, change, and adventure, masterfully and evocatively told by Tucker. And while readers might find it reminiscent of S. E. Hinton’s That Was Then, This Is Now and The Outsiders (with elements of Stephen King’s Stand by Me and Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird), the setting makes it incredibly unique.

In addition to numerous travel articles, Tucker is also the author of several books of nonfiction, including the critically acclaimed The Great Starvation Experiment (Free Press, 2006), which Publishers Weekly called “a fascinating and moving history of the experiment… told with verve and economy.” His next narrative nonfiction work, Super-Critical, about a fatal nuclear-reactor accident, will be published by Free Press in 2008.
