Venture Literary Sells "Untitled Horse Racing Anthology" to DRF Press

On August 15, 2001, Frank Scatoni of Venture Literary sold the world rights to his forthcoming anthology on horse racing to Dean Keppler of the Daily Racing From Press.

Unlike any other sport–with the possible exception of baseball–horse racing has been a breeding ground for quality literature. From old-time greats like Damon Runyon and Red Smith to modern-day wordsmiths like Laura Hillenbrand and William Murray, talented writers have found the grace, beauty, and sheer athleticism of the Thoroughbred an easy vehicle in which to express their innermost thoughts and feelings about the sport, the animal, and, most important, man’s relation–physical, spiritual, and psychological–to this near-perfect creature and the races that it runs.

In Scatoni’s anthology of the "best horse racing writing," he captures the essence of a sport that is both exhilarating and breathtaking, frustrating and cruel. As the editor of the project, Scatoni has gathered dozens of the finest essays, stories, and excerpts written about the sport of kings–and the denizens that inhabit its incredible universe–thereby offering the reader an unprecedented opportunity to experience this world through the poetry and prose of the greatest chroniclers of the sport.
