Venture Literary Sells Coaching Instructional to Contemporary Books

On December 14, 2004, Greg Dinkin, representing ESPN columnist Marc Connolly, sold World rights to his soccer coaching instructional to Mark Weinstein at Contemporary Books, a division of McGraw-Hill Books.

Through his own personal experience, as well as interviews with select coaches from the top soccer clubs in the country, Connolly explores the way elite soccer clubs teach the game. He will detail how to handle all aspects of coaching, including conditioning, recruitment, scheduling, try-outs, and training sessions. The book also includes separate chapters on systems of play, attacking and defending drills, as well as goalkeeper training.

In addition to writing for ESPN.com, Connolly also writes weekly for MLSset.com, and monthly for The Soccer Post magazine and the United States National Soccer Players Association website. He is a regular writer for England’s popular magazine FourFourTwo, as well as Boston magazine’s Concierge. He served as a host during ABC news’ World Cup preview show in June 2002, and he is also a regular on sports talk shows, including ESPN Radio and ABC news. In addition to writing, Connolly is the coach for the Oakwood Soccer Club in Glastonbury, Connecticut, which Soccer America ranked as one of the nation’s top 20 premier clubs in its February 2004 edition. Since the summer of 2002, he has coached and honed the skills of four different boys’ teams, along with conducting different clinics for all ages at the Select Soccer Academy on the campus of Wesleyan University.
