Venture Literary Sells Clonie Gowen’s Instructional for Women to Harcourt

On December 15, 2004, Frank R. Scatoni of Venture Literary, representing Clonie Gowen, sold the North American rights to her untitled poker instructional for women to Jen Charat at Harcourt.

Gowen, the World Poker Tour (WPT) Ladies’ Night Champion, will reveal her secrets to success in a world dominated by men. She has learned the hard way how to become a successful poker player, and the skills she teaches in this book will allow other women to follow in her footsteps—without having to experience her mistakes. The book is intended for women just starting out in poker and those seeking to reach the professional level, as well as men who frequently find themselves sitting across from women at poker tables or online. After outlining the basic rules of the game, Gowen then addresses the different types of games available to poker payers, along with the variety of venues. She then explains the finer points of strategy, including how to read other players and how to take advantage of being the only woman at a table. She will also teach women how to start and host the perfect home game for their friends.

Clonie Gowen’s win in the WPT Ladies’ Night tournament has made her one of the most known faces in professional poker. A former Miss Teen Oklahoma, Gowen has appeared on Good Morning America and has been featured in the New York Times, Dallas Observer, Texas Monthly, and Esquire. She is currently the only female on the star-studded team of players promoting Full Tilt Poker, an online poker room. She is also a regular columnist for All In magazine, and sits on the Board of Directors for the U.S. Poker Association. Active on the speaking and seminar circuit, her clients include The Banks of America, Saks 5th Avenue, and The National Ovarian Foundation.
