"No Kill Date"

Venture Literary Sells Humorous Essay Collection on Parenting to St. Martin’s Press.

On January 24, 2007, Jennifer de la Fuente of Venture Literary sold the North American rights to Kimberly Chisholm’s Hump: The Sticky Intersection of Sex and Parenting to Elizabeth Beier at St. Martin’s Press.

In this compilation of stories, Chisholm intelligently and humorously explores her struggles to not only maintain but also enhance her sex life with her husband while in the throes of having and raising their three little kids. Instead of succumbing to the fatigue and sexual monotony that often accompanies parenthood, Chisholm experienced a renaissance when her youngest child turned two—she flew to Vegas with her husband, tattooed his name on her back, got a Brazilian bikini wax, and never looked back. Hump documents her efforts, and will resonate with parents of every ilk.

In today’s incredibly child-centric culture, focusing attention back on the parents, the marriage, and the bedroom is crucial. Written in the spirit of Mommies Who Drink and The Bitch in the House, and told with the wit of Amy Sedaris, Hump promises an antidote for parents who feel overwhelmed by their responsibilities and undervalued as sexual beings. Ultimately, this book is a frank exploration, both dark and humorous, of the sexuality that undergirds nearly all social interaction but that becomes—when children enter the mix—complicated. Relevant for all parents, Hump offers inspiration, humor, and compassion to anyone who indulges in the account of this sex-minded mother’s odyssey.

Kimberly Chisholm has published stories and articles in publications such as The Believer, The Threepenny Review, Literary Mama, Mothering, Moxie, and Brain, Child. She received her doctoral degree in 2001, from the University of California at Berkeley, in Spanish and French Literature, where she is an occasional adjunct professor. She is currently at work on a novel.
