Venture Literary Sells Poker/Vegas Lifestyle Book to Simon & Schuster

On January 26, 2004, Greg Dinkin of Venture Literary, representing Celebrity Poker Showdown co-host Phil Gordon, sold the World rights for a poker lifestyle book to Tricia Boczkowski of Simon Spotlight Entertainment, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

Phil Gordon is a world-class poker player and the co-host of Bravo’s hit show Celebrity Poker Showdown. In addition to introducing the most popular forms of poker and explaining the intricacies of this game of skill, Gordon will describe the ins and outs of poker psychology and teach the reader to become a winning player. He will examine the different breeds of players from "the Rock" to "the Maniac," explain why it’s more important to be loved by the floorman than the dealer, detail what to wear, drink, and tip at the table, and profile the legends of the game with tips from some of the biggest names in poker today.

Phil Gordon has been featured in Yahoo! Internet Life, Cigar Aficionado, Business 2.0, and Card Player magazines and has been a guest on NPR’s This American Life and Sporting News Radio. He has appeared in a Travel Channel documentary on the World Series of Poker and on episodes of the hit TV shows Blind Date and NBC’s newest primetime drama Las Vegas. And even before he started hosting Celebrity Poker Showdown, Gordon had played poker regularly with several media celebrities including Ben Affleck, Josh Malina, and Hank Azaria. Among his many poker accomplishments, he won the "World Poker Tour: Aruba" tournament and finished fourth in the granddaddy of all poker tournaments: the 2001 World Series of Poker.

Gordon will give a percentage of his book royalties to Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. At the 2003 World Series of Poker alone, he raised $38,000, and his overall efforts have raised more than $75,000.
