Venture Literary Sells Celebrity Poker Showdown Host’s No-Limit Hold’em Instructional Book to Simon & Schuster

On July 15, 2004, Greg Dinkin of Venture Literary, representing Celebrity Poker Showdown co-host Phil Gordon, sold the World rights for a no-limit hold’em instructional book to Tricia Boczkowski of Simon Spotlight Entertainment, an imprint of Simon & Schuster.

With two victories on World Poker Tour and more than $1.1 million in tournament purses, Phil Gordon is a world-class poker player, expert teacher, and the co-host of Bravo’s hit show Celebrity Poker Showdown. The poker-tip booklet Gordon wrote for the celebrities on Celebrity Poker Showdown—which has assumed mythical status, as it’s constantly referenced by the celebrities on the show—will be the foundation for this how-to book. Gordon will give readers a fun, accessible, wisdom-filled book that will become a treasure in every poker player’s library and a must-have for anyone interested in playing the most popular game of poker: no-limit hold’em. Each poker tip will provide the perfect balance of wisdom and expert advice tailored to players who know the game and want to become better.

Phil Gordon has been featured in Yahoo! Internet Life, Cigar Aficionado, Business 2.0, and Card Player magazines and has been a guest on NPR’s This American Life and Sporting News Radio. He has appeared in a Travel Channel documentary on the World Series of Poker and on episodes of the hit TV shows Blind Date and NBC’s newest primetime drama Las Vegas. And even before he started hosting Celebrity Poker Showdown, Gordon had played poker regularly with several media celebrities including Ben Affleck (who has agreed to write the foreword), Josh Malina, and Hank Azaria.

Gordon will give a percentage of his book royalties to Cancer Research and Prevention Foundation. To date, his fundraising efforts have raised more than $100,000.
