Venture Literary Sells the First Two Books of an Oral History Series of the NFL to Bloomsbury

On March 7, 2009, Frank R. Scatoni of Venture Literary sold the North American rights to Jim Baker and Bernard M. Corbett’s Stealing the Lord’s Day: An Oral History Series of Pro Football to Benjamin Adams at Bloomsbury.

The Stealing the Lord’s Day series will kick off with franchise histories of the New York Giants and New England Patriots. Each book will provide NFL fans with the ultimate overview of each team’s most memorable games. From the gambling scandal at the 1946 NFL Championship Game between the Chicago Bears and the New York Giants, to the upset that was the 2008 Super Bowl, where Eli Manning lead the New York Giants to defeat the favored New England Patriots, Stealing the Lord’s Day provides an overarching history that looks at how the NFL has been shaped and how it has changed—by focusing on each franchise’s role in the history of the sport.

Fans get a firsthand account of these famous events from people who actually experienced them, including players, coaches, writers, and broadcasters. This oral history approach provides football fans with a unique insight and perspective on the game they love. Stealing the Lord’s Day captures the spirit and passion of Friday Night Lights through the compelling style of The Glory of Their Times: The Story of Baseball Told by the Men Who Play It.

JIM BAKER is a columnist for ESPN’s “Page Two,” a site that receives more than 100,000 hits daily. BERNARD M. CORBETT is an award-winning sportscaster for Boston University hockey and Harvard football. He’s also the author of many critically acclaimed books, including The Only Game that Matters: The Harvard/Yale Rivalry.
