Venture Literary Sells Vice-Based Investing Book to Wiley

On November 18, 2002, Greg Dinkin, representing Caroline Waxler, sold World rights to Stocking Up on Sin: How to Crush the Market with Vice-Based Investing to Debra Englander at Wiley.

Vice-based investing means putting your money in companies associated with booze, gambling, sex, weapons, and tobacco–in short, sin. A 52.96 percent return for an index of vice stocks versus a return of 11.83 percent for the S&P 500 over the past five years has made vice-based investing a market phenomenon. Stocking Up on Sin will examine how these sinful stocks have returned more money to investors than their purer peers, in both bull and bear markets. The book will weave together history and trends, along with graphs and charts, to demonstrate how valuable vice-based investing is to a portfolio. Just as Peter Lynch showed investors how to have fun researching stocks in One Up on Wall Street, Waxler will show investors not only how to outperform the market, but also how to have fun doing it.

Caroline Waxler is one of the country’s foremost finance writers. A former staff writer for Forbes, she regularly contributes to Worth, Glamour, and Financial Times. Her work has appeared in Allure, Bride’s, Inside, Newsweek, The New York Times, New York Magazine, Smart Money, and Sports Illustrated for Women. She was the youngest investing columnist for Forbes, and her stock picks for the "Streetwalker" column outperformed the S&P 500. She also designed and edited the business sections for Fortune’s eCompany (now Business 2.0) and The New York Sun. Her October 2002 cover story for Worth, "Sex Appeal," explored the fascinating topic of sinful stocks.
