Venture Literary Sells Lead New York Post Sports Columnist’s In-Depth Look at the 1912 World Series to Doubleday

On September 1, 2007, Frank R. Scatoni of Venture Literary, representing Mike Vaccaro, lead sports columnist for the New York Post, sold North American rights to 1912: The Greatest World Series Ever to Jason Kaufman at Doubleday.

In 1912, Mike Vaccaro takes a historical look at baseball through the lens of the greatest World Series in modern times. The 1912 World Series went the distance and was the first World Series to go seven games (actually, eight games, because of a tie). Vaccaro discusses the World Series in its entirety by recounting the game’s conspiracies and controversies that gripped a nation, and the rivalry that erupted between fans of the Boston Red Sox and New York Giants. Complete with a cast of characters that includes Tris Speaker and Joe Wood for the Sox and Christy Mathewson and John McGraw for the Giants, 1912 explores the first World Series that really put baseball on the map and made it the “Fall Classic” that it is today.

Mike Vaccaro, one of the most widely read sports journalists in America, is the lead sports columnist for the New York Post. He has won more than fifty writing awards and has been cited for distinguished writing by the Associated Press Sports Editors, the New York State Publishers Association, and the Poynter Institute. His career began in 1989 at the Olean (N.Y.) Times-Herald and has included stops in Fayetteville, Arkansas; Middletown, New York; Kansas City; and Newark, New Jersey. He has covered every major sporting event, from the Super Bowl to the Olympics, from the Final Four to the NBA Finals, from the World Series to World Cup soccer and the Stanley Cup playoffs. He is a 1989 graduate of St. Bonaventure University.
